My understanding is that the widow of Fred Allen, Portland Hoffa, donated personal papers, letters & radio scripts and in particular every radio recording that Fred Allen ever performed to the Boston Public Library. Of what I know is that the radio recordings were digitized in 2002 & made public to anyone with a BPL library card. If there is anyone in the Boston area, who is a radio collector, and has a BPL card, could you please find out how one can obtain copies of Fred Allen's missing radio programs, to get those programs into the Internet Archives? Nearly half of the recordings have been missing. Since I don't live on the East Coast, perhaps someone who loved Mr. Allen's work could locate those recordings for generations to come.

I'm a little disappointed that no one from the Boston area, has come forward with any information about the donated Allen recordings. Perhaps no one has seen this post. I hope someone can help?

I was truly hoping to receive a response to my query about the audio donations that Portland Hoffa had made to the Boston Public Library. I was hoping that some Boston area collector would know about these files, and upload them on this site. You must be a true resident of Boston to gain access to Fred Allen's radio shows. Even though BPL has in internet site, you cannot gain access to any of the donated material unless you have a BPL library card & a valid resident of Boston. Can anyone help?
